Jamaica world’s 3rd coolest country – CNN

BEATEN only by Brazil and Singapore, Jamaica has been ranked the world’s third coolest country by CNN. The lighthearted article posted online listed the top 12 among 250 countries.

“There’s more to Jamaicans than reggae, including Rastafarian (the most kick-back religion ever invented), an accent that’s the envy of the English-speaking world and the planet’s most distinctive and recognisable hairstyle. Note to backpackers: dreadlocks only cool on actual Jamaicans,” said the article.

CNN defined Jimmy Cliff as Jamaica’s ‘icon of cool’ but marked the island down for a ‘high murder rate and widespread homophobia’.

JAMAICA BEACH

The white-sand beach in Negril is the only one in Jamaica that has made it to the top 100 list of the international broadcaster CNN. There is no space for the Winifred or San San beaches in Portland while Ocho Rios does not get a mention.

Coming in at number 41 the Negril beach trails others in the Caribbean including Grace Bay, Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands, which is ranked number three, and Crane Beach, Barbados, which is at number 23.

“Is it possible to rank the world’s best beaches?” asks CNN in the article published yesterday.

“Of course, it is. This is the Internet,” adds CNN.

“Will everyone agree with our ranking, murmuring respectfully among themselves about how perfectly accurate every placement is? Maybe not. This is the Internet.

“But that’s why we’ve scoured the planet, demanded answers from our most well-travelled friends, colleagues and cohorts, absorbed passionate pleas from readers, researched, investigated and examined the evidence then finally tipped the sand from our shoes, washed the brine from our eyes and put together a pretty good guide to the best beaches on the planet.”
